Live Life with Flavor Challenge Day 5 – Embrace Family in Business

Hello Ladies! Today is Day 5 of the Live Life with Flavor Challenge and it’s Fabulous Business Friday!

I often get asked how I am able to balance being a wife, a mother of six children and a business woman…

We, as women, are constantly being told that a mother can’t be a successful business woman, or that a business woman can’t be a mom!

There is absolutely a way to be the ideal you, as a mom, while putting your best foot forward with your customers...

Today, I want to put that rumor to rest. There is absolutely a way to be the ideal you, as a mom, while putting your best foot forward with your customers. And that starts by establishing a firm foundation!

As you know, I have always had a passion for both family and business. Both aspects flow through my veins and give me the inspiration I need to get out of bed every day. When I chose to start my first business, I knew that the only way I would be successful was to create a business that embraced my family!

What do I mean?

Let me give you a scenario… I’ll never forget the day I was holding one of my first webinars for paying customers. I had told the kids, that I would be busy for a bit on an important call, and that I would be available as soon as a it ended. In the meantime, the older children volunteered to watch the younger ones, so, I went to work…

I tell you, I was in the zone! Doing my thing! My adrenaline was high from excitement, my clients were tracking with me, and suddenly…

I felt a tug on my shirt. It was my youngest daughter, Isabella. Her eyes gazed at me with expectancy as she asked for a glass of water. Immediately, two options went through my mind…

  1. I could brush her off and continue the lecture I was in the middle of.
  2. I could acknowledge her and possibly anger some of my clients.

I turned to my customers, let them know there would be a brief water break and took care of my daughter. Why did I do that?

Because at the end of the day, my child is my priority! And the reason I chose to work from home was because I had purposed to be close to and to spend time with my children.

Yes, I respect my customer’s time! And yes, I do everything with professionalism! But it is important, that my customers understand that my first dedication is to my family. In that moment, I not only sent that message to my customers, but my actions told my child that she is more loved than my business.

On reflecting later, I felt proud to know there was nothing from that evening that I would have changed. Subconsciously, I had sent a message to every person present that I do all things with excellence, especially being a mom.

It’s about integrating and embracing every part of your life. Don’t be afraid to allow your family to overflow into your business and let your customers know that you won’t apologize for your family - they will respect you for it!
