Live Life with Flavor Challenge Day 14 – Resting Does Your Body Good!

Today is Day 14 of the Live Life with Flavor Challenge and Tone Body Thursday!

I bet you expected me to write about staying fit by exercising and eating healthy… Instead, I am going to explain that rest is another very important way of staying fit for the long run.

In our society, there is ALWAYS something to do. There is always somewhere to go. Across this nation there are cities nicknamed – the city that doesn’t sleep…

It’s easy to get pulled into the whirlwind of busyness and forget that your body absolutely needs rest!

The body is a wondrous machine that has many different ways of telling us that we are tired and we need time to recuperate... Your body could be crying out for rest! Have you noticed the signs?

I don’t know if you have noticed, but the body is a wondrous machine that has many different ways of telling us that we are tired and we need time to recuperate…

Your body could be crying out for rest! Have you noticed the signs?

Inflammation: puffiness under the eyes is a great telltale sign… However, the inflammation doesn’t just stay there… It often feels like bloating, which no woman enjoys.

An inability to focus: what should be an easy question is extremely difficult. For a friend of mine, that can look like switching number sequences…

Sugar cravings: if you have been munching all day and your body still wants more, especially sugar, your body is asking to make up for the depleted adrenals.

On coming cold: when your body is tired and hasn’t had the time to recuperate, it can fight off sickness as easily.

Highly emotional: suddenly more prone to crying? Or outbursts of anger? Maybe a little (who’s kidding…) A LOT more frustrated? All signs of tiredness! Then again, there is the opposite extreme, uncontrollable laughter… One friend told me she laughs herself to sleep when she is overly tired… Wish I had that one…

Butterfingers: not the candy bar… Tripping on your own feet or being more clumsy can also be a sign of your body needing rest.

The result of not listening to these signs are countless… Including an emotional breakdown, which, let’s be honest, no one has time for…

So instead of pushing our bodies to the extremes, let’s slow down and learn to listen to what our body is asking for…

Once I have succeeded in listening to my body, an acceleration flows from that rest. It’s the body’s way of saying, “thank you for responding to my needs!”

What do I do?

I take one day a week to completely rest. Sometimes, that looks like sleeping in a little longer, but often, it looks like one day where I don’t work at all.

Maybe a good book comes in to play or even a foreign film. But at the end of the day, my rest looks like slowing everything down to a place where I can receive the peace that I need to continue for another week.

Once I have succeeded in listening to my body, an acceleration flows from that rest. It’s the body’s way of saying, “thank you for responding to my needs!”

Questions: Can you recognize when your body is saying, “you have gone too far, you need to slow down”? How are you going to integrate rest into your life?
