The Power Behind the Heroine- Meet Disney’s First Latina Princess

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with DiMeMedia and Disney Channel. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

There are times in a young girl’s life when there is a power that takes you beyond what you have ever imagined… sometimes that power comes through example and sometimes it comes through words of affirmation. I’ve been fortunate to have received both from my dear “Mami.”

This modern day heroine has been the core motivation behind my leadership skills not only in how I inspire my husband and children, but in how I lead others to being the best version of themselves.

The truth is we all need that kind of power behind us. Without it, the courage to do those things which at times seem hard, would fail. Without that force, our boldness and action would stay stagnant. To know SOMEONE BELIEVES IN US is all we need.

A few days ago, I had the privilege of partnering with DiMe Media and Disney Channel in their premiere of the first Latina princess- Princess Elena of Avalor (see fun pictures of the In-Home Royal Viewing Party below). Just like in my life, Princess Elena is faced with the great responsibility to lead her people… and her family is the strongest support behind her. Each step of the way, they provide the “wind beneath her wings.”

Interestingly enough, my “Mami” inspired me to lead through 3 powerful traits, also resembled by Princess Elena of Avalor.

Lead with Thoughtfulness- My Mami, an immigrant single mom was always considering my brother’s and my needs, making sure the transition to this new country was as pleasant as could be. She was the kind of woman who anticipated the needs of others and went above and beyond in every good deed.

Lead with Resilience- If this isn’t my mother’s middle name, I don’t know what is!! Arriving to the United States with two small children, not knowing the language and without any support from family or friends, my “Mami” learned to be flexible and adjust to the changes and to the environment. Resilience was probably her greatest and strongest attribute and it’s an attribute she’s passed on to me. Leading with resilience has taught me to "spring back into shape," no matter what.

Lead with Compassion-  “Mami” worked two full time jobs, yet she always remembered her sisters and brothers in Ecuador. She always knew part of her earnings were to be used to help them have a better life. Her care for those abroad and those local, showed me a heroine should always have compassion.

Today, my “Mami” continues to inspire me with these great attributes, serving as my “Royal Council,” just like Princess Elena’s family does. Every time I am faced with a dilemma, every time I need advice, my “Mami” is there to help me lead the way.

If you want to instill these and other great family and leadership qualities in your children, make sure to tune into the Disney Channel each week to follow Elena of Avalor’s latest royal adventures! Elena of Avalor airs on the Disney Channel on Fridays at 7:30pm ET/6:30 pm CT and 7:30 pm PT!
